Groton has a long and rich football tradition, dating back to its inaugural season in 1884, a mere fifteen years after the first intercollegiate game was played between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869. Our historic annual games with St. Mark’s represent the fifth oldest high school rivalry, dating back to the first clash in 1886.

The Groton Zebras play in the highly competitive Independent School League (ISL), which consists of sixteen New England preparatory schools. Though we are a small school, Groton over the years has fielded successful and highly competitive teams, and we are proud of our student-athletes who move on to compete at some of the finest academic institutions in the country. Members of our squad in recent years have drawn interest from schools in the Patriot League, NESCAC, the Ivies, and top engineering schools.

Though we embrace our football tradition, today’s Zebras are a fun mix of modern wide-open offense, operating out of the "spread shotgun" formation while playing an attacking, aggressive style of defense.

Bio
Jamie Lamoreaux has had a distinguished career in football for nearly forty years. As a player, Mr. Lamoreaux was a four-year letterman at Northeastern University. After graduating, he returned to Ayer High School, which he had attended, to coach football. After four years as an assistant coach, including one Massachusetts state championship, Mr. Lamoreaux ascended to the role of head coach. He served as the head football coach of Ayer High School for nearly thirty seasons, winning four league championships and three times being named the Lowell Sun’s All-Scholastic Coach of the Year. In addition, Mr. Lamoreaux was named the Wachusett League coach of the year on multiple occasions. In 2009, he received the Nashoba Publishing Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2017, Mr. Lamoreaux was inducted into the Ayer High School Athletic Hall of Fame as an outstanding athlete and a very successful coach of thirty-six years.

Bio
Karim Hill has been involved with the sport of football as a player, coach, and administrator for more than 20 years. As a player, Mr. Hill received a full athletic scholarship and started as a running back for the Ohio University Bobcats his true freshman year. He suffered a severe knee injury the beginning of his junior season and stayed with the team as an analyst. In 2015, he and his wife founded Redzone Flag Football and TLP (Train Like a Pro) skills training in Sudbury, MA. The goal of these programs is to provide a fun environment for children K-6 to safely learn the fundamentals of the sport of football. In 2018, Mr. Hill assumed the role of defensive coordinator / defensive backs coach at Lawrence Academy, and in 2021 had the opportunity to serve as the defensive coordinator for the Lincoln Sudbury Warriors.
